ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 23, 2025 − Local law enforcement will be recognized for the work they do every day to protect area citizens during Rochester Rotary’s 23rd annual Law Day luncheon, Tuesday, May 27 at noon at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Rochester Police Department Officer Don Wasser will receive the Henry H. Jensen Memorial Award, and Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Raymond Gagnier will be recognized with the Above and Beyond Service Award.

A member of the Tactical Unit and SWAT Team, Officer Don Wasser demonstrates commitment, dedication and courage and volunteers for assignments from tedious to critical. One example of his selfless service involved a retired RPD lieutenant’s son. The son was diagnosed with kidney failure and needed a transplant. Officer Wasser decided that he would see if he was a kidney match, even though he had never met the son. The son was ultimately matched with a kidney from another donor, but the situation led Officer Wasser to want to be a kidney donor to another person in the future.

Deputy Gagnier, who works in the Monroe County Jail, is recognized as a leader among his peers. He has a long history of supporting corporals and helping mentor newly promoted supervisors. Deputy Gagnier has also led the implementation of policy changes and new equipment, such as changes in booking and data processing platforms.

About Henry H. Jensen Memorial Award

Upon his passing, former RPD Executive Deputy Chief and honorary Rochester Rotarian Henry Jensen designated that an award be presented annually to one of the Rochester Police Department’s “unsung heroes” who engage in civic relations and community service.
