The Rochester ACE Mentoring Program is an independent affiliate, of ACE Mentoring National Program. Our mission is to Engage, Excite and Enlighten high school students who are interested in the construction industry. The acronym ACE stands for Architecture, Construction, and Engineering. We have two after school programs that meet weekly beginning in October and run through March. The Playhouse Group is geared towards Architecture and Construction, the students had to design, a playhouse. The only criteria we give them is size 4 feet wide 6 feet tall and 6 feet long. We give all these playhouses away to critically ill children through out Western N.Y. The second half of the year they had to design, a 1500 S.F. house utilizing some of their playhouse design features into their design.
Our second program is called Community Park which is geared to Engineering and Construction. This year, our students were given the task of designing a Community Park along the Genesee River near Front & Andrew Streets in Rochester. They presented their design’s, to the City of Rochester at City Hall on January 17, 2023. The second half of the year the students designed 3 different stadium bench designs for Rochester Rotary Sunshine Camp to replace their old benches. After receiving which design the camp wanted the students built the benches.
Included in our syllabus are 6 Saturday trade classes where our students receive, hands on experience in concrete forming, metal stud framing, electrical, HVAC, and Earthmoving. Our programs are free to high school students and with the help of Rochester Community we will award $ 36,000 in scholarships and tool vouchers.
Sincerely
William Ketchen
