SUMMARY:Rotary on the Road
DESCRIPTION:Rochester Rotary is going on the Road for the April 15th Luncheon. We will be touring The Little Theater located at 240 East Ave\, Rochester at noon. \nChris Hastings\, WXXI’s new President & CEO will be sharing some quick remarks before we are shown a short film. \nThe Little Theatre officially opened on October 17\, 1929. A three-man orchestra seated in the upper rear left balcony provided accompaniment for the 299 persons attending. In keeping with its devotion to silent films\, The Little Theatre chose to be known as “The House of Silent Shadows\,” and its first presentation was the silent film “Cyrano de Bergerac.” \nIn January 2012\, the theatre took an innovative step toward sustainability by entering into a parent-subsidiary relationship with WXXI Public Broadcasting. Because of this merger\, The Little gained a newfound stability in a shifting\, growing downtown. \nSpace is limited for this luncheon. Please use the button below to register and secure your meal. \nTHIS LUNCHEON IS FULL

SUMMARY:Tuesday Luncheon Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Naomi Silver\, President\, CEO & COO of the Rochester Red Wings\, will be joining us at Comedy at the Carlson on Tuesday\, April 8th to present “Red Wings: Changes in our Business.” \nNaomi will talk about where the Red Wings are today in terms of the game\, MLB\, the Washsington Nationals\, and where they came from. \n  \nNaomi has been involved with the Red Wings her entire life. The Silver family has been devoted to Rochester Community Baseball for over a half century\, and Naomi has taken an active role for over three decades\, working her way up the corporate ladder. She is the daughter of Morrie and Anna Silver. Morrie literally saved baseball in Rochester\, and it is because of the Silver’s devotion to the community that Rochester’s franchise is among the most revered\, respected and the longest continuously operating franchise in all of baseball. Naomi honed her business skills\, assuming more responsibility and taking over different aspects of the business\, becoming the country’s first and only female at the helm of a professional Minor League baseball franchise. As president and CEO of the organization\, she has overseen the Red Wings most successful period in its history. Additionally\, Naomi now serves as the representative for Triple A baseball on Major League Baseball’s Governance Committee. \n  \nUse the form below to register for this luncheon

SUMMARY:Tuesday Luncheon Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Guest speaker Adam Chodack will be presenting The Role of Local News at noon at Comedy @ the Carlson. \nTrust is everything. Who and what we trust shape our worldview. Those who desire power know this and many seek to sew distrust in sources of information that work against their mission. This is why the mainstream media is so often the target. But some looking to confuse and manipulate also try to exploit the trust journalists – especially local journalists – have earned through decades of dedication to a set of ethics. This presentation will give examples and offer solutions. It will also talk about the moment the presenter put his trust in his community and revealed a frightening medical condition. \n  \nUse the form below to register.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Luncheon Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Comedy @ The Carlson to hear guest speaker Jamie Druckman\, Martin Brewer Anderson Professor of Political Science at the University of Rochester present “Partisan Hostility and American Democracy: Explaining Political Divisions.” \nThe rise of partisan animosity—the tendency of Democrats and Republicans to dislike and distrust one another—is one of the most notable developments of 21st century American politics. I will discuss how animus influences a wide range of political behaviors including issue positions\, evaluations of political leaders\, support for compromise\, and support for democratic norms. That said\, I will also explain why the growth of partisan animosity does not inevitably mean that democracy is eroding. \n  \nUse the form below to sign up.
