SUMMARY:Tuesday Luncheon Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Steve Hess\, Holocaust survivor\, will be sitting down with past club president\, Don Alhart\, for this interview-style presentation. \nSteven Hess (Stefan) and his twin\, Marion\, were born in Amsterdam\, Holland on January 14\, 1938\, two years after their parents fled Nazi Germany for the presumed safety of the Netherlands. \nAfter the Nazi invasion on May 10\, 1940\, the Jewish family was eventually rounded up and sent first to the Westerbork deportation camp and\, later\, from there to the infamous Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. In late April 1945\, after two weeks on a cattle car train\, later remembered in history as “The Lost Transport\,” they were liberated by Russian troops near the village of Tröbitz in eastern Germany. Of the approximately 2\,500 prisoners on the train\, more than 600 died on the train or shortly thereafter. He and his sister are the only still living twins of Bergen-Belsen and arguably of any concentration camp. The family eventually returned to Holland. They immigrated to the United States\, arriving in New York on January 1\, 1947. \n  \nYou do not want to miss out on this amazing story. Please use the form below to register. \n  \n\n

SUMMARY:Tuesday Luncheon Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Locust Hill Country Club on Tuesday\, February 10th – \nRochester Rotary’s Global Vision: Uniting for Good in Uganda \nNext week’s luncheon will be one you won’t want to miss. I’ll be sharing the story behind a Global Grant project that is truly unlike any other Rochester Rotary has taken on — a WASH (Water\, Sanitation\, and Hygiene) initiative to bring clean water to two districts in Uganda. \nThis journey started more than a year ago with a smaller District Simplified Grant and a partnership with the Ugandan Water Project. We saw how something as simple as clean water could transform lives\, schools\, and entire communities. That success inspired us to think bigger. \nLast February\, I had the privilege of traveling to Uganda\, where I met families and children whose daily lives revolve around the search for clean water. Their resilience and gratitude left a lasting impression on me — and it solidified our resolve to do more. \nNow\, after months of collaboration\, planning\, and tireless fundraising\, we’re in the final stages of a $100\,000 Global Grant that will bring safe\, sustainable water access to over 12\,500 people. This is Rotary at its finest — ordinary people doing extraordinary things together. \nI can’t wait to share the full story next week — how this dream came to life\, what it will mean for the communities we’re helping\, and how each of you plays a part in this transformative effort. Come ready to be inspired by what happens when we truly Unite for Good. \nSee you at lunch\,\nPresident Rich \nPlease use the form below to register for this luncheon:

SUMMARY:Tuesday Luncheon Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our annual Veterans’ Day Luncheon at The Carlson with guest speaker Jack Foy. \nJack Foy of Greece represents less than one percent of veterans who served in World War II who are still alive to share their experiences from the largest and deadliest conflict in human history. \nJack was born in 1925 to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Foy of Charlotte and was one of ten children in his family. He attended Holy Cross School and graduated from Charlotte High School in 1943. His dad was a plumber and owned his own residential plumbing business. His mom was a busy homemaker raising ten children. \nAt 17\, Jack was finishing high school and was accepted into the military’s Army Specialized Training Program at Cornell University. He began his classes in September 1943 during the peak of World War II. The plan was to attend Cornell for two years and receive a degree in engineering as well as a commission into the Army Corps of Engineers. Later that semester\, a need for more combat troops kept Foy from reaching his goal. “We were losing a lot of men to the causalities of the war\, and there was a need for more infantrymen with high IQs\, so they pulled us. I was chosen to go over with about 200 young men in my infantry company. \nRead more here \n  \nTo provide our venue with an accurate count\, we ask that you please sign up if you are planning on attending this luncheon. You will not get charged if you are no longer able to attend.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Luncheon Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Carlson to hear from guest speaker Wade Cook\, Executive Director of AIM Photonics. \nAIM Photonics At the 10 Year Mark \nPhotonic integrated circuits are found throughout every AI data center and in your phones and tablets. In the near future\, they will be found in quantum sensors\, portable atomic clocks\, and ultra-sensitive\, low-cost medical diagnostic devices. The AIM Photonics Institute is an international leader in developing this technology of the future\, which we do from facilities in Albany NY and on Lake Avenue here in Rochester. This past June\, the Institute marked its 10-year anniversary as a non-profit public-private partnership. This presentation will touch on an amazing technology\, on what that tech means for daily life (and for some major social trends)\, and on the Institute’s role in growing the US photonic industry. \nTo provide our venue with an accurate count\, we ask that you please sign up if you are planning on attending this luncheon.
